What Quotes Keep You Motivated and Positive

Too busy for anything insightful or funny this week as we have a major Youth Launch Event at Fed Square this Sat 19 March; 1.30-4pm! RSVP and info: http://www.globalpovertyproject.com/pages/youthlaunchrsvp

Youth Launch Event Invite!

Seriously love these sorts of events with some anticipation and excitement – along with a crap-load of work…

But like any good run or high mountain, the pain, effort and dedication is all worth it! This brings to mind one of my favourite quotes that comes from the leader of a Polish climbing team who lead his team to climb the worlds 13 highest 8000m mountains and all of them in the middle of winter! When asked why in winter, like it isn’t hard and cold enough in the best of conditions, his response – ‘positive suffering’.

Love the concept of positive suffering. For me hard work and dedicating your time and effort to something difficult to achieve makes the rewards that much sweeter. That’s also why I’m not into this convenient and easy way is good way of thought. And if things do go pear shaped and completely sucks with no reward I like another quote from a Brazilian mate of mine – ‘todos conspirar para inspirar’ (all things conspire to inspire).

I apply this positive way of thought to most things in life – my girlfriend now away for three months with three months to go before I see her again makes it that much sweeter when we do finally reunite.

Or the non-stop practise of the new youth presentation I have been doing for the past three weeks will make it oh so better when I NAIL IT on Saturday! Be there and be inspired by what this presentation inspires in young people for them to inspire you with their actions – a circle of inspiration really!

Other quotes I love:

  • Are you a part of the pollution or are you a part of the solution? Michael Franti
  • You can bomb the world into pieces but you can’t bomb it into peace. Michael Franti
  • We have enough in the world for everyone’s need but not enough for everyone’s greed…
  • ‘Learn… Unlearn… Relearn’ – Tim, Deputy Principal, Arrowtown School NZ.
  • The more things you have the more you have to worry about… If you are hungry you only have one thing to worry about…
  •

Add you own quotes as comments below – always nice to have a few positive words to get you thinking (and hopefully acting!) – Enjoy some positive suffering this week!

  1. Tara Watts says:

This quote by the inspirational Eleanor Roosevelt always keeps me going through each day…”With each new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”

Frederic Ozanam, the founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, is another person whom I live by their words and example. Ozanam said that “All my life I have followed the poetry of love in preference to the poetry of anger. I will not change now.” Imagine if the whole world was able to follow the poetry of love rather than the poetry of anger…imagine.

  2. Alicia says:

Something that has kept me going for many years now…

“Let it go. Let it out.
    Let it all unravel.
Let it free and it can be
A path on which to travel”
